Why is James Lileks better than Andrew Sullivan?

The short answer is here. The long answer would fill volumes and bore you to sleep. But suffice it to say, certain choices we make in life, contribute to the advancement and sustenance of ourselves and our race. Other choices do not. Some negative choices deserve to be outlawed due to the negative effects those choices have on society and individuals, other choices, while negative, are not worth banning because enforcing such a ban is more of a negative effect on society than the choice itself. That does not mean that the choice should be supported by the government, taught as a viable option in schools, or revered in any sense.
